There is much in the way of Croydon nightlife, with a wide and varied range of entertainment to suit all tastes. The Warehouse Theatre in Dingwall Road was founded in 1977. As well as boasting a rich programme of theatre events and productions, it also offers educational, youth and outreach programmes as well as writer development opportunities. Housed in a Victorian, oak-beamed, former cement warehouse built in 1882, the Warehouse Theatre Company presents challenging new work through its own productions as well as co-producing with other companies. Through the International Playwriting Festival the theatre has discovered and launched the career of a host of successful writers along with much success in transferring plays to the West End and other London theatres, touring both nationally and internationally.
The Blue Orchid nightclub situated on Park Lane is set over two floors in which there are two main rooms playing various styles of dance music. Themed nights are held during the week, such as ‘Angels’ on Fridays when a selection of garage, R&B and drum ‘n’ bass is played. On Saturday nights there are various big name DJs as well as drink offers on selected brands. The venue attracts a generally young clientele made up of students and young professionals.
Tiger Tiger is the ultimate venue where people can eat, drink, party and entertain all under one roof, whatever the occasion. As well as being experts in party planning, Tiger Tiger delivers the very best in entertainment. The design is spacious with a huge downstairs bar and contemporary restaurant attached. A VIP bar with Moroccan influences and another dance room is located upstairs. There is a bar menu which offers snacks and nibbles along with the main restaurant which offers a number of interesting fusion-led culinary ideas. This lavish place attracts a mixed range of generally affluent people that want to be ‘seen’ at Croydon’s newest and most stylish locale.
Another late night venue is The Granaries which is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings. This particular nightclub hosts a range of funk and soul nights as well as a few slightly more commercial evenings. Dimly lit, the mysterious decor manages to create quite an underground feel to the club although the funky grooves usually uplift the alternative crowd to party level. The bar stocks a range of good spirits as well as a reasonable selection on draught, however, unfortunately there is no food available.
The Loop Pool Bar is a new stylish members club just off the High Street. It has an impressive cocktail bar, thai menu, dance floor and ten American pool tables as well as a VIP ‘Living Room.’ Loop is open late all week and until 3am on Saturday nights with sensational DJ’s Thursdays through to Sundays from 8pm.
Vintage is Croydon’s newest and most lavish venue set over two floors of stylish Vintage chic and opulent decoration. Three bars offer delicious, irresistible cocktails, fine wines and a vast selection of spirits and premium beers. Vintage is strictly for the over 21′s every Friday & Saturday night with free admission all night.
Opened in 1962, Fairfield Halls is a major entertainment and conference centre located in Park Lane whose large concert hall with its excellent acoustics is often used for BBC recordings. It comprises of the Concert Hall, the Ashcroft Theatre and the Arnhem Gallery. Being home to the talented London Mozart Players, Fairfield Halls is ideally suited to showing films, concerts, comedy shows and theatre. The popular Green Room Restaurant situated on the Ground Floor Level is the perfect venue for an evening dinner prior to any one of the amazing shows on offer.
For film buffs there is the Odeon Cinema in Derby Road, the Vu cinema in the High Street and the David Lean cinema at the Croydon Clocktower in Katherine Street
